SDI Project Wins Illinois Capital Development Board Award
CHICAGO--March 17, 2006--The State of Illinois Capital Development Board has honored the project team that developed and constructed the Illinois Emergency Management Agency’s State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) with its most prestigious award for public building design and construction: the Director’s Award for Pride in Partnership. The award recognizes the entire project team including SDI who designed the center’s Information Technology systems and infrastructure. The center, an $18 million, 50,000 square-foot facility serves as the emergency response headquarters for the State.
The Illinois SEOC exemplifies a 21st-century design trend of merging architecture and technology—taking technology functionality, infrastructure requirements, and security into consideration at the base-design level. The SDI team designed and installed servers, data storage systems, and network systems with streaming video and other advanced communications functions. The fully-integrated center supports emergency dispatch and coordination between all State agencies and departments. As a result, State decision makers have the tools and information they need to make and monitor emergency situations throughout the State of Illinois and to coordinate responses with other Municipal, State, and Federal authorities.
With emergency command experience in over 5 government centers in Chicago alone, SDI was able to incorporate technology elements into the SEOC that—through the use of technology—will help the State of Illinois to respond more quickly and effectively to emergencies. “This award is a great recognition of the quality work that is the SDI hallmark, and it is one of the main reasons that so many government clients trust SD·I to design their mission-critical facilities.
