Emergency Evacuation Plans and High-Rise Building Emergency Procedures for Municipal Housing Authority

Project Description

SDI was contracted by a municipal housing authority, to create and implement Emergency Evacuation Plans and High-Rise Building Emergency Procedures for 182 residential, senior residential, and administration buildings.

Project Goals

The goal of the housing authority is to meet the minimum requirements of the High-Rise Buildings/Emergency Procedure Ordinance that the city council mandated.

  • Compile buildings and residents information into a database for 182 buildings
  • Develop Emergency Evacuation Procedures and Manual
  • Create and field verify Computer-Aided Design Drafting (CADD) emergency evacuation route drawings
  • Oversee creation and installation of required signage
  • Create tenant one-page information sheet in English and Spanish languages, explaining what residents should do in an emergency
  • Conduct training for Fire Safety Director and Deputy Fire Safety Director and coordinate certification process
  • Conduct evacuation drills for residents (various languages)
  • Oversee creation of a video for training residents on emergency evacuation procedures
Project Results

The authority has Emergency Plans and Procedures for all of their high-rise buildings. Building managers and the residents have been instructed and practiced what actions to take in an emergency situation. Manuals, hand-outs, and a video have been supplied to each building to support and remind the manager and residents what to do in an emergency. Clear, accurate, ADA-approved signage is located in each building. Building and resident information has been provided to the city's emergency management office and to the fire department for use during their response to an emergency.
