Project Description

Aon Center, one of the world’s tallest buildings (84 floors and 1,136 ft. tall), is a premier center for Fortune 500 companies in Chicago. As a high-profile property, security and data management issues are a constant challenge. While working with a building the size of a small city, maintaining the information required can be a daunting task.

As a result, SDI created and currently maintains building data, tenant information, and procedures to comply with the requirements of the City of Chicago Municipal Code “High Rise Buildings-Emergency Procedure” as amended July 2002.

Project Goals

Coordinate with building management, security and engineering staff to compile an Emergency Plan Manual that includes all emergency procedures, relevant tenant data, fire equipment locations, and elevator lobby evacuation route signage.

SDI Services

• Created Emergency Evacuation drawings—Computer-Aided Design (CAD) file creation
• Created Emergency Procedures drawings
• Developed database of building and tenant information for submittal to the Office of Emergency Management and Communications
• Provided tenant handouts showing procedures for emergency situations
• Database Maintenance (On-Going)

Project Results

Aon Center was the first building to submit to the OEMC—City of Chicago. Emergency evacuation plan data was submitted to the Office of Emergency Management and Communications. Emergency Procedure Manuals were provided for the Office of the Building, Engineering Office, the security desks, and at the fireman’s life safety panel. Evacuation Route Floor Plans for elevator lobby signage was provided throughout the building. SDI continues to provide Emergency Plan and database maintenance services and submits updates to the OEMC every six months.
